About Me

Dr. Leslie L. Maddox is a veteran, educator, behavioral health professional, and community advocate dedicated to improving the lives of individuals, families, and underserved communities. She serves as a Success Coach and Adjunct Professor at the University of Maryland Global Campus (UMGC), where she empowers students to overcome barriers, achieve academic success, and reach their personal and professional goals. As an educator and mentor, Dr. Maddox is passionate about developing future leaders and empowering others through education, service, and advocacy. She believes that lasting change begins with access to knowledge, supportive relationships, and opportunities that strengthen individuals and communities.


Dr. Maddox serves as Chair of the Health Committee for the NAACP Wicomico County Branch 7028-B, where she leads initiatives that promote health equity, mental health awareness, and community wellness. She works to connect community members with education, resources, and services that support healthier lives. In addition, she serves on the Wicomico County Behavioral Health Advisory Council, collaborating with local leaders to improve access to behavioral health services. She is committed to strengthening partnerships that address the mental health and wellness needs of Wicomico County residents. Through her leadership and service, Dr. Maddox continues to advocate for equitable access to care and healthier communities.


For11 years, Dr. Maddox worked in the mental health field, providing services to individuals with co-occurring mental health and substance use disorders. She specialized in working with pregnant and prenatal women experiencing substance use disorders, helping them access treatment, recovery services, and support for healthier outcomes for themselves and their children. Throughout her career, she provided counseling, case management, crisis intervention, and recovery support while connecting individuals and families with essential community resources. She believed every person deserved compassion, respect, and the opportunity to heal. Her experience strengthened her commitment to helping others find hope, rebuild their lives, and achieve lasting recovery.


Dr. Maddox proudly served in the United States military, where she demonstrated a strong commitment to service, leadership, and resilience. Following the events of September 11, 2001, she was deployed in support of military operations, serving her country during a time of national crisis. Her military experience strengthened her ability to remain calm under pressure, adapt to challenging environments, and work effectively as part of a team. The values of integrity, discipline, and selfless service that she developed during her military career have continued to guide her professional and community leadership. Her service instilled a lifelong commitment to helping others and making a meaningful difference in the lives of those she serves. 


Dr. Maddox remains committed to serving others through leadership, education, advocacy, and community engagement. She believes that meaningful change begins with compassion, collaboration, and a willingness to invest in the lives of others. Her diverse experiences in military service, behavioral health, higher education, and community leadership have shaped her mission to empower individuals and strengthen families. As she continues her work, she is dedicated to expanding access to mental health services, supporting student success, and improving the well-being of underserved communities. Through every role she serves, Dr. Maddox strives to leave a lasting legacy of hope, service, and positive change.
