Mrs. Teresa Couch-Riggins

(Case Management)

About Me

I graduated high school in 1985. I started working for Austin State Hospital group homes at 19 years old. I stayed in the group homes overnight teaching the clients to cook, clean and basic necessities of life. I then transferred to Brenham State School two years later, a MHMR facility for the mentally disabled. I was a supervisor on a unit. I worked with the more aggressive clients teaching basic life skills. I then transferred to Giddings State School, where I have worked since 1992. I have been a level II hearing specialist, a case manger, security caseworker, restabilization unit youth liaison, youth activity supervisor and a juvenile correctional officer. I left Giddings State school in 1997 to further my education in an effort to become a caseworker to work more one on one with our youth and more stable hours instead of shift work. I knew this was what I needed to do for my son and it was more money for a better life for us. I had my son Tyler in September of 1996. He is now grown with 2 children of his own. Ii am a proud mother and grandmother. As noted above I graduated college in May 2001and moved back to Giddings. I have been married for 12 years. I love the fall, I love going to the lake, and family is my priority. My mother is my backbone, I would not be who I am today, or where I am, if it was not for her support, love, help, patience and unconditional love.
