About Me

In 2022, Tamu Chambers published "21st-Century Anthology:Higher Education Pride, Purpose and Passion -- Understanding and OvercomingAdversity, Volume 1." This anthology is a collection of her publishedarticles and contributions to books that reflect valuing diversity, equity andinclusion on public and private college campuses and in the workplace. Overall,her writing addresses social behavior, social and political institutionsregarding ethical values from sociological and philosophical viewpoints. Thearticles and chapters she has contributed to various journals and books explorethe continuing unfolding of democracy, human rights, gender, equity, inclusion,and local and global justice.

 

Chambers has been a professor in the Department of Education andSocial Sciences at Hudson Valley Community College in Troy, NY, for more than20 years. Throughout her career, she has taught Sociology, Ethnic Studies,African and African-American History, both online and in the classroom. Sheearned a M.S. degree at the SUNY at Albany and a B.A. degree at the College ofSaint Rose, also in Albany.

 

In the 1990s, Chambers cofounded the Diversity Enrichment Programat Russell Sage College in Troy and continues to design curriculum and deliverdiversity programs for various organizations throughout New York’s CapitalRegion and the State University of New York (SUNY). At HVCC, she founded and isan advisor to Sister In Cynch, a student club dedicated to offering programsand experiences that embrace diversity, and increase social and culturalawareness on and off campus.
