My name is Racquel James. I was born and raised on a beautiful tiny island in the Caribbean called St. Vincent and the Grenadines. After graduating high school in 1999, although I was accepted into every college and university that I applied to, I had to work for a year to earn money for my flight abroad. In 2000, I migrated to the USA to pursue my college degree. All I had was about $25.00 in cash and a dream. I had every intention to return home upon completion, but life happened; I got married, had my first daughter and decided to make the USA my permanent home. I've since graduated with 2 Masters degrees; Business and Human Resources. My goal in life has always been to be my own boss. I was a business major in high school through to my graduate degrees. I knew that my line of business had to be something that I am passionate about, because I didn’t want my business to feel like a job. My minor in my undergrad was Hospitality Management so I had the privilege of working in the travel industry through my internships. I learnt so much about the industry but had not that it would eventually be my chosen path to success. My business partner/mentor introduced me to the Travel business, and I knew that this was exactly what I wanted to do. I LOVE to travel, and the fact that I can get paid to do it, was a no-brainer. LOL. I was completely caught off guard when I was contacted by P.O.W.E.R; Professional Organization Of Women Of Excellence Recognized. The call made me to reflect on my humble, yet painful upbringing, and all the adversities I’ve overcome. To many, I am a victim but I’ve never used that term to describe myself. Instead, I see myself as a “Victoress” who refuses to allow my sexual assault at the tender age of 10, and my abuse in relationships to define me. My strength definitely came from my mom, who also experienced abuse; most of which I’ve witnessed as a child. I reflected on how far I’ve come, being a role model to my 2 daughters and the importance of stepping out on faith and taking risks. I am truly humbled and grateful by the recognition!
