Naitsabes A. Barreto Perez is the Orchestra Director of Champion High School and was previously the Orchestra Director of Boerne High School. She has many years of experience as a violist, orchestra director and viola and violin teacher. Under her direction the orchestras from both high schools earned sweepstakes ratings at UIL. Dr. Barreto earned her Doctorate in Educational Management and Leadership (Ed. D.) from the InterAmerican University of Puerto Rico. She has a Master of Music degree from the University of Akron in Ohio and a Bachelor of Music from the Puerto Rico Conservatory of Music. Upon finishing her doctoral studies, Dr. Barreto became the Assistant Orchestra Director at Dorothea Brown Middle School in McAllen ISD. Prior to that position, she taught viola and violin and was the Orchestra Director at the Fine Art School Ernesto Ramos Antonini in Puerto Rico for seven years. She was a Music Professor at the InterAmerican University of Puerto Rico and the Antillean Adventist University, where she taught Music Appreciation, Strings Pedagogy, Chamber Orchestra, Viola and Violin. While doing her master and bachelor degrees, Dr. Barreto participated in summer music festivals in Puerto Rico, Colorado and France, and played in regional orchestras in Ohio and Puerto Rico. In addition, she wrote articles for a local newspaper in Puerto Rico, has offered lectures in Costa Rica about the findings of her doctoral dissertation and has attended the TABE conference. Dr. Barreto Perez is an active member of TODA and TMEA.
