Martha Diaz (MD) is a Colombian-American futurist, archivist, curator, educator, filmmaker, and social entrepreneur. She is the founder, president, and CEO of the Hip-Hop Education Center. For more than thirty years, Diaz has worked across the Hip-Hop entertainment industry, public arts sector, and academia, producing exhibitions, curricula, research initiatives, and international cultural programs that document and preserve Hip-Hop history and culture.
MD is the founder of the Hip-Hop Odyssey (H2O) International Film Festival and the H2O archives housed at the Schomburg Center for Research in Black Culture at the New York Public Library. She also founded the Women in Hip-Hop Archive at the University of Massachusetts Amherst.
MD is the inaugural Lab Faculty for College Unbound's Hip-Hop Educators and Leaders program, and as a Senior Producer at The Alliance for Media Arts + Culture, where she leads the Arts2Work Digital Archivist Apprenticeship Program. Her fellowships and appointments include the Nasir Jones Fellowship at Harvard University, A'Lelia Bundles Community Scholar at Columbia University, and the MacArthur Civic Media Senior Fellowship at the USC Annenberg Innovation Lab. MD also serves on the NYC Her Future Champions Council, and is a proud mother, grandmother, and lifelong advocate for human rights.
