Dr. Mahnaz Rashti was born in Iran as the youngest of seven children to a Jewish family. Being a minority in a very oppressive society, both of her parents were illiterate and worked in factories since their early childhood with no access to any kind of education. Thus, their dream and main priority were to create better opportunities for their children through higher education. Several of Dr. Rashti’s older siblings became Doctors and inspired her to follow their footsteps. However, trying to have a career in any field as a Jewish person in Iran was impossible and fleeing the country was the family’s only chance. In 1987 Dr. Rashti joined her older brother and escaped through the Iranian border, arriving in New York City one year later. Surviving on government support, she graduated from The College of Dentistry of New York University in 1994 and moved to Los Angeles, California to complete her residency at the VA Hospital.
