My name is Kelly Patterson Bien-Aime and I am the teacher/owner of KKL&B Learning Center. I believe that all children have the innate ability to learn if given the opportunity to receive a quality education. Every child is unique and with guidance and support can use their special gift to make a difference in themselves and our world. Children need the following basic needs from their teacher and school community: support, safe and positive school and classroom environment, understanding of their particular needs, security and a variety of opportunities to learn by incorporating the multiple intelligence and learning styles of each and every student . The overall goal is to create a classroom community of leaders. As a teacher/owner it is important that I communicate to not only my students but also the parents the importance of an education. It is my desire to make sure that my classroom is conducive to establishing high standards and goals for all children that enter my classroom by incorporating hands on and minds on activities that activate my student’s prior knowledge and engage them in their learning. My goal is to create learners who have self-efficacy and self-esteem, which in turn will create lifelong learners. I believe that it is important that children learn in a child centered environment versus direct instruction. Child centered instruction allows the child to discover new information and use the information gained and apply it to other aspects of their learning process. It is important to encourage and involve the students in their own learning through cooperative learning and independent learning opportunities at KKLB Learning Center. Independent learning opportunities that are fun and exciting. My ultimate goal is to instill in my students the importance of receiving an education and to become lifelong learners who thrive on always wanting to learn more and more as they become older.
