My name is Jessica Brake. I am a mother of 3 children. My stepson, Kaleb, has grown into a amazing young man. He is a manager at a fast food restaurant. My son, Trey, has always been a kind, caring soul. His family meant everything to him. He is now our angel that watches over us. My daughter, Alyssa, is full of life. She loves to make people laugh and her faith is so strong. My husband, Leo, has brought me out of my shell. Sometimes he regrets it but he sometimes has to hold me above water. My whole family is my world. My family has been through so much and we stay a family and stay strong and hold each other when one of us is struggling. I am also a recovering addict. I have been clean and sober for 16 years. I was going down a road of spending a long time in prison, but by the grace of God he saved me and here I am today. I have also struggled with mental illness. One thing is you have to want the help before your recovery begins. Also having a support system is key to recovery. I also have a WRAP. (Wellness Recovery Action Plan). It's a plan to help me during the different stages of me struggling. It also helps my support system know what to do during the time of crisis. I started working in a state hospital setting in 2003. I started in the kitchen then moved to mental health worker which is now psychiatric nursing assistant. I left the state in 2011. I returned as a psychiatric nursing assistant in 2018 then went to peer support. I truly believe this is my calling. Not only do I help others they help me without even realizing it. I call it a win win. Thank you for allowing me to be apart of the empowerment for women. It is a great honor to be a part of this group.
