Janet Stern,a graduate of the Hartford Art School, developed a technique in which she etches into wet paint to create an initial image. After the paint dries, she employs many methods of applying paint to produce the whimsical works. There are paintings on canvas and paper. All paintings use acrylics and enamel.
The Bicycle paintings have been featured in New American Paintings published by The Open Studios Press and Imagined Worlds by Freeman Dyson published by the Harvard University Press. She has participated in exhibitions throughout New Jersey, Pennsylvania and the Internet, Her work has been purchased for both private and corporate collections in New Jersey, Ohio, California, New York, Delaware, and Tennessee.
Although academically trained, there exists both a primitive and -"outsider" quality to the work. Janet would like to find new outlets to exhibit so that the multifarious works could find permanent homes.
