Holly Carter Vega is an entrepreneur, community leader, and global military advocate. Married to Marine Corps LT Col Javier Vega for over 20 years, Holly works tirelessly to connect families to resources that will aid and improve life. She also supports spouses as they collaborate to pursue personal goals and passions. Holly stands on the belief – We can all succeed together! She is a connector and supporter, operating from the foundation military spouses are each other’s greatest advocates and when we lift the voice of one, we lift the voice of many. It is her desire to mentor and encourage others to recognize how valuable their gifts are to the military spouse community and inspire spouses to use their gifts for the betterment of those around them. In 2020, Holly Vega co-founded Military Hearts Matter (“MHM”), a non-profit initiative that unites volunteers in support of our military community and heart health. Her passion for heart health advocacy is one that grew from personal connection when Holly’s brother had a heart attack at age 40. That personal experience combined with the story of Gold Star spouse Vivianne Wersel’s journey with her husband’s heart attack, motivated Holly to a mission of heart-healthy advocacy. Holly hopes this endeavor will bring education and awareness to the military community regarding the stressors of military life and the impact those stressors can have on heart health. MHM, along with the board, volunteers, and league of ambassadors comprised of military spouses and veterans, all strive to pave the way to support heart health awareness and education within the military community worldwide. A firm believer that education and engagement is the key to personal and professional development, Holly has been an avid volunteer throughout her marriage to her Marine spouse. As a result, Holly was named the 2019 AFI Military Spouse of the Year. The Vega Family was also named the 2019 Central Florida USO Marine Corps Family of the Year. Volunteerism builds our community by utilizing the best we have to offer; a commitment Holly has exemplified throughout her life. In 2022 Holly was named the South Carolina Mother of the Year. Holly is a Marine spouse, proud mother of three, and unofficial zookeeper to a menagerie of two parrots, four chickens, one rooster, two dogs, a school of fish, and one pear tree all residing on their small farm on “Sweet Tea Island” in South Carolina. Holly is an example to all that purpose can be found in a passion borne from the heart.
