Guirlene is the co-founder and was the President of Haitian Hope Humanitarian Effort, an organization whose mission is to restore hope and dignity to the people of Haiti by providing resources for education, healthcare and nutrition. In the past year, Guirlene has become a key speaker on Domestic Violence - an issue that has slowly crept into Indianapolis. A native of Haiti, Guirlene’s family moved to the United States when she was 11 years old. Graduated as a Marriage Family Therapist Student at Christian Theological Seminary and a Master of Divinity. Also graduated from Indianapolis, Indiana and a graduate of Martin University in Indianapolis, Indiana with a MS in Community Psychology and also graduated from Southwestern Adventist University in Texas with a BS in Social Work, In Guirlene’s own journey, discovered that being a social worker is more than a profession – it is a way of life. She can remember growing up with the desire to serve, defend, and stand-up for the "under-dog." She loved working to help people, especially children and seniors. So when she came back to the United States from her mission work in South Korea, she continued her work with the children and senior population. She worked a few years in long-term health care as a therapist, and then as a caseworker for a year and a half. She then worked in hospice, and it was there that she learned to give support to caregivers of dementia patients and the terminally ill. Then she worked as a case worker and a therapist at a foster care agency. Currently, she is a school-based therapist. Guirlene enjoyed spending her spare time being a wellness mentor.
