I, Erica Walker Vaught, was born and raised in Memphis, Tennessee. Growing up my mother, siblings and I lived in the poverty. My mom gave me away at the age of 5. I returned when I was 12. I could not understand how she gave me away and kept my siblings. As I got older, I realized that I was a warrior. During my high school years it was worse for me. I was molested by my step father. The older I became the more I struggled with identity. I gave birth to my oldest child, Raquan, after I graduated from high school. I met my husband Christopher Vaught two years after graduation. We will be married now for 9 years on July 21. Although we struggle, we survive. We have two boys, Christopher Jr. and Christian. My health started failing after I gave birth to our last son Christian in 2018. In 2019, the doctors discovered I have Polycystic kidney disease, cyst on my liver, ovaries, and secondary lymphedema. I still get up every day and trust the lord that he will heal me and I fight with everything in me. I became a stay at home wife and mother in 2019. In 2020, I decided to open my own hair extension business. I wanted to give back to woman who cut their hair off to survive and feed their families. So I decided to study human hair. I wanted to know where the hair bundles came from. I started my business a month before COVID-19. RCC Hair Extension, LLC has been in the industry now for a year. It was challenging and I struggled a lot due to scam after scam. I kept my faith knowing one day it would pay off. I named the business after my children, Raquan, Christopher and Christian. I wanted to leave a legacy for them and my soon to be grandbaby Rae'niya Harper. I am a firm believer that no matter where you come from and how long it takes you will make it. I want to thank you Lord for this opportunity and thanks to power for recognizing me. We are all power women. We might get knocked down, but we get up and make things happen.
