Ms. Dovie J. Coleman

(Counselor)

About Me

I Love Life! It can be hard but how could you express gratitude for sunshine, friendship, family, love, and all the wonderful things that appear when we least expect it? Knowing I can overcome any obstacle face disappointment, tragedies, and things that don't make sense. This cycle of life is the reality we all live in and, I embrace both ends of the spectrum. You must accept the bad with the good, there is purpose for both.

In my current career, I have the opportunity to meet people at their worst and walk beside them until they become familiar with the things that don't make sense. As the Family Counselor, I have the opportunity to comfort, and educate by teaching recovery tools that builds resiliency for the entire family. Over time, families gather strength through participating in community support groups that strengthens the entire household, and, in some cases, other family members and friends' notice the difference. We discuss generational trauma, family roles, codependency, conflict resolution, and issues relevant to their family. This is my second career, and it spans addiction, mental health, domestic violence, and sexual assault. I was not looking for this path, but it found me, redirected my energy, compassion, and purpose. The devastation of our families from mental health, addictions, domestic violence, and sexual assault are overwhelming.

I am the founder of Walk in the Steps, an organization focused on building achievable outcomes for families seeking assistance in developing a recovery plan according to their needs. Walk in the Steps aims to assist families in finding local resources designated to provide information and assistance to complete their recovery plan.
