My name is Denise McGee, but in the creative world, I proudly go by Dee McGee—a name that embodies my passion, purpose, and platform. I was raised in a loving two-parent household as one of nine siblings, number seven in line. That foundation gave me strength, but my journey was anything but easy.
I’ve been writing since 1990, yet for years I never called myself an author. I knew I was meant to do something meaningful, but I didn’t know what—or how. After a difficult marriage left me raising children on my own, my family became my lifeline. I dreamed of going back to college, but fear held me back. At 25, I worried I’d be the “old student.”
Then I met the man who would become my husband. He believed in me and encouraged me to return to school. There, a college professor saw something in my writing that I hadn’t yet seen in myself. Still, I sat on 14 unpublished books for years, unsure of my voice. It wasn’t until my daughters read my work and urged me to share it with the world that I finally took a leap of faith.
In 2024, I released my debut novel, Triple Threat, under the name Dee McGee. The book was embraced by Barnes & Noble and is now available on Amazon, where it’s received 5-star reviews and heartfelt praise. That moment changed everything. I went on to establish DCLA Production LLC—my independent film company dedicated to bringing my stories to life and amplifying the voices of others.
My mission is to uplift women of all ages and ethnicities, to give back to my community, and to prove that it’s never too late to chase your dreams. I want every woman to know: you are not alone. I’ve been there. I’ve struggled. And now, I stand tall—ready to inspire, create, and lead.
