About Me

Dr. Charla N. Burns is a physician, professor, and healthcare leader dedicated to advancing healthcare through clinical excellence, education, and service. With expertise spanning medical education, public health, and evidence-based medicine, she has devoted her career to preparing the next generation of healthcare professionals while promoting high-quality patient care. 

Dr. Burns earned her Bachelor of Science in Biochemistry from Louisiana State University and A&M College and her Doctor of Medicine degree from the University of Texas Medical Branch. She trained in internal medicine at Tulane Medical Center before transitioning into public health leadership and academic medicine.

She currently serves as an Associate Professor in the Doctor of Behavioral Health Program at Cummings Graduate Institute and as a Clinical Assistant Professor in the School of Public and Allied Health at Prairie View A&M University. Her professional interests encompass scientific communication, healthcare policy, and clinical evaluation. Beyond her academic roles, Dr. Burns is deeply committed to mentorship and community service. She believes that education, leadership, and lifelong learning are powerful tools for advancing health outcomes, fostering health equity, and empowering the next generation of healthcare professionals.

Dr. Burns has also established a meaningful presence in the entrepreneurial and financial services space. As a licensed life insurance broker, she is passionate about expanding financial literacy and access to wealth-building resources. Her mission is to educate and empower individuals from historically underserved and socioeconomically disadvantaged communities with the knowledge and tools needed to build financial security and create a lasting legacy of generational wealth.
