About Me

Born and raised in Washington DC, attended DC Public Schools. Next to the youngest of 5 girls (we're now retired DCPS Teachers), no brothers; none of us are over 5ft2in (I'm 4ft 11&1/2in). Mom's 96 yrs old and never taller than 4'10'", Daddy was about 5'2. I was what was called a "Tomboy" because of my non-feminine athletic abilities. Voted Most Athletic Female in my High Scoot graduating class of 1969...have not missed one class reunion (celebrating our 50th in Nov 2019). At DC Teachers College in the 70's I was the ONLY FEMALE on the VARSITY Baseball Team. Loving sports/athletics was my calling to be a teacher of Health & Physical Education. Absolutely loved the education (science courses...learning the human body...wow....FASCINATING) Being taught the bare basics of "use what you got" lessons from instructors for teaching PE in the under-privileged/equipment depraved DCPS System.... priceless. My student teaching was under my Jr High SchooI PE Teachers...how cool is that, huh! Once employed, I taught in hallways for years, never missing a beat. And basics of Folk & Square Dance were displayed by students at annual May Day Programs (including Wrapping May Pole, which I would make from discarded carpet spools and sheets with school colors). When finally a full size gym in elementary level schools appeared, I sponsored up to 20 after-school athletic/health clubs, culminating with Awards Banquet at years end. Parents made full course meals, I hustled up trophies and/or plaques, certificates (individually personalized/using my photography skills and computer photo programs). The Health club had student nurses (from Howard Univ.) work with them in preparation of an annual Health Fair (in which club members used blood pressure cuffs & stethoscopes, vision machines and wall charts, and 2nd hand stop watches for pulse rates. Students PK-Grade 6 were club members ...most popular : Yo-Yo & Gymnastics with nearly over 100 participants each. The University of District of Columbia sent their Physical Education Majors to me for mentoring their student teachers. I taught 30+ years in the DCPS Systems underprivileged SE area schools. I spent ten years in each school. Maryland Park & Planning was my 4pm to 9pm part-time job for over 20 years, as well as every summer. Mostly I was coaching, summer program director, instructor (Calligraphy, Gymnastics Aerobics, etc.). I also worked part-rime for 8 years as a Realtor, with one of the only black broker companies (Ekuban & Associates). One of my most rewarding activities during the summer months was to serve as coordinator of Sports/Athletics for Women's Music Festivals on the East Coast. For over 20 years I enjoyed empowering women of all backgrounds and skill levels (who attended from all over the country) in athletics. My 1st fifteen years were with the week-long CAMPFEST WOMEN'S MUSIC FESTIVAL (held at a campsite in New Jersey) as their Sports Coordinator. I introduced the women to organized friendly competition in everything from Tennis, Table Tennis, Softball, to Basketball, and solicited a southern group known as the International Women's Flag Football Organization to the Campfest family. The over one thousand annual attendees loved every bit of my program. From Campfest I was solicited to run the Sports Program for another East Coast Women's Music Festival in Virginia known as CAMPOUT Women's Music Annual Weekend Festival. Here I once again organized athletics such as Sand Volleyball, Badminton,Softball and invited the International Flag Football Organization to engage these women as well. What a swell time we all had. My longest service was with a Women's Organization out of Philadelphia: SISTERSPACE. I started with them in the 80's when they were functioning out of the Poconos until they moved to Maryland. For 20 years I was their Communications & Security Coordinator. My staff (of 15 or more) were to make certain that each woman felt welcome, secure and a priority at this annual weekend event. This was the festival at which I earned my second nickname of "CC from DC". Women from all over the country attended so you always told where you were from when introducing yourself. I had the pleasure of being made aware at these festivals that my presence was the main reason for so many frequent returns year after year by many attendees. What a great feeling! . As a retiree, I concentrate on my love of archery, bowling, photography, riding my bicycle and coloring. I continue to care for my 96 year old Mom who only has mobility/balance health issues of concern. I've been awarded a Bronze Medal in the 2006 Gay Olympic Games and a Gold, Silver & Bronze Medal in the 2014 Gay Olympic Games (all in Bowling competitions). I've received trophies and recognition for pioneering community women's social activities in the DMV area by the local & international gay bowling organizations. I served 4 years as the Chairperson of the IGBO (International Gay Bowling Organization) Women's Outreach Committee. This was due to my bowling league (League Of women Bowlers) being their largest East Coast Women;s league. I served as committee person on the board of the local DC Sports Organizations (Team DC) and CARA ( Capital Area Rainbowlers Association) the local bowling leagues umbrella overseer.
