Ashley M. Gorbulja-Maldonado, 25, holds a Masters in Public Health from Northeast Ohio Medical University with an emphasis on military community programs. She holds bachelor degrees in The Science of Education and The Science of Organizational Supervision with a minor in Psychology from the University of Akron. She has worked with thousands of student veterans and their families over the course of 7 years in multiple positions within the Northeast Ohio community to help transitioning families navigate higher education administration, veteran benefits, resources, and personalized advisement to meet their goals. Ashley additionally has spent much of her time working with various Student Veterans of American chapters, American Legion Posts (as a past commander to The University of Akron’s Post 808), and serves as an appointed member of the National American Legion Veterans Employment and Education Council. All while continuing to serve in the Ohio Army National Guard as a noncommissioned officer providing yet another unique perspective on National Guard and Reserve education benefits. In this time Ashley has been exposed to a variety veteran organizations in Washington DC, higher education, small businesses, and Northeast Ohio community events. Hallmarks include: Ohio Army National Guard Profile in Success: SGT Gorbulja, AMVETS National Interview, American Legion DC Live stream feature(s) (includes using photos on TAL national website and magazine), Ohio Veteran PBS Feature Interview, participant of EVAC project, The Washington Center (TWC) VET $14,000 internship/scholarship, and a recipient of $36,500 dollars in scholarships graduating debt free and still has an opportunity to earn her Forever GI Bill. Ashley will additionally be a two panels as a featured TWC alumni success story discussing internship opportunities and Using Scholarships to Supplement your GI Bill at the 2019 SVA NATCON.
