My greatest achievement? Keeping a sense of humor after 20 years in the restaurant business. Humor is a sanity saver through the road of adversity of the 24/7 demands of owning restaurants and personal challenges. If you predicted 25 years ago that I would be a newspaper columnist or write a book, I would have laughed in your general direction and called you whacky. I was so terrified of writing anything formal that I actually quit my job when asked to write letters to new prospects; never mind going on to write a book on resilience, commitment, and down-to-earth leadership. From a struggling single mother of two to starting a high-risk restaurant that would put me in the world of women-owned businesses that took their business over the million-dollar mark, or become a successful speaker and share my “million dollar recipe” for success; "How to Fire Up Your Work Place Without Setting It On Fire" and "Starting A Business Isn’t the Same as Staying in Business". It was a blessing to have an incredible staff, high employee morale, low employee turnover, and loyal customers. As a result, Fazio’s enjoyed a steady increase in sales in a relatively small community over a 20-year period.
