My family and I immigrated to America from Azerbaijan when I was 4 years old in 1990. My parents left their families and came here alone with two daughters ages 4(me) and 2(Elizabeth my sister) with the motivation to better their children's lives. While doing so my parents struggled to learn a new language, make a living, raise two daughters, assimilate to new traditions and modernize themselves. I grew up watching two young parents in their twenties trying to "make it" while making mistakes and trying not to repeat them at the same time (not easy at all). My mother Nazilya Schmookler, graduated Columbia University Dental School, she became a general and cosmetic dentist who has owned her own practice in Brooklyn, NY for many years. My father Vladislav Schmookler, helped provide for my family while my mother was in Columbia so that she can achieve her goals. He became a business man and partner to the dental practice my parents built together. Long story short, when I am feeling lazy or not interested I think of my parents and how they pushed themselves and never stopped. This is what pushes me in business and in life to better myself and my family.
