Dr. Hicks is a speaker, trainer, grant consultant and entrepreneur, providing academician and nonprofits with tools to successfully realize grant goals and objectives for over a decade. She currently serves as pre and post awards grants coordinator at UNC Chapel Hill Institute of African American Research (IAAR), consulting with faculty members on best funding approaches. She provides grant funding workshops to University and community leaders. She is managing partner of Grant Professional, an organization specializing in writing 501c3 applications for nonprofits and grant research. She has secured over $20 million in funds for public and non-profit agencies and offers grant workshops annually to the public. A decade of work experiences in university settings with research universities and HBCUs, she is well versed in fostering grant partnerships and working with sponsored research in universities. She has established educational partnerships with Universities in Beijing, Nanjing and Jinan China and has partnered with Confucius Institutes at NC State University and Cleveland State University on exchange trips to China for high school and college students. Using her academic training in adult learning strategies and qualitative research, Angela has taught graduate school at NC State and NC A&T State Universities and have served on graduate level course development and doctoral dissertation committees. She received a Master's degree in Organization Development from Bowie State University and a Doctorate degree in Adult Education from NC State University. Angela lived in Beijing China and taught English to High School students and young adults. She edits documents for Asian professionals and serves on the board of NC local nonprofit Asian Focus Corporation as Grant Writer and VIP Liaison. She wholesales and invests in real estate in her spare time. She lives in Cary NC, has an adult son who is soon to be an Economist and is fluent in Mandarin and has an adult daughter who is a successful retail executive in New York City.
