About Me

Andrenia Burgis is an experienced public professional who presently holds the position of Deputy Chief in the New York City Department of Sanitation. She has a Bachelor of Science in Business from CUNY’s Medgar Evers College. She will complete her graduate degree at Keller Graduate School of DeVry University. She is receiving a MBA with a concentration in Public Administration. Andrenia began her work in the public services arena with the commencement of her career at the New York City Police Department in the Communications Division. In 1981 she became a Police Communication Technician where she advanced to Supervising Police Communication Technician. Andrenia has dedicated her career to working within local, city government. She presently works for the Department of Sanitation which she joined in 1998. She has been promoted through the ranks to Deputy Chief, the 6th woman to hold that rank. Her latest assignment in the Enforcement Division of Sanitation where she oversees the agency’s Enforcement Personnel and Police throughout the City of New York. As a woman it is considered to be nontraditional work but has proven to be a great place of opportunity. Andrenia has spearheaded training and mentoring programs within the African American Benevolent Society of Sanitation to assist sanitation employees to realize their promotional goals. She as a member of several community groups has facilitated programs for job readiness and has secured scholarships for youth pursuing higher education
